Supplements

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

There are an awful lot of different supplements on the market and it can become confusing very quickly. “Supplement creep” is a real thing and it is easy to be taking WAY too many supplements. I am going to give you a list of the core supplements that I think are important for us to be taking to both maintain and improve our health. Matt carries these supplements in our pharmacy and he only sells very high quality supplements. All supplements are not created equally so it is very important to choose the highest quality brand names available……Matt has taken the time to find those for us.

1. Multivitamin

This is the base of our supplement regimen. It will help prevent any nutritional deficiencies.

2. Fish Oil

A powerful anti inflammatory that is also good for our skin, joints, and cholesterol. It also has the added benefit of thinning our blood a bit.

3. Vitamin D

It modulates our immune system and helps prevent it from becoming over active as in the case of autoimmune diseases. It helps us absorb calcium which strengthens our skeletal system. You want the Vitamin D3 K2 supplement. The vitamin K directs the absorbed calcium to our bones and not our arterial walls.

4. NMN and Resveratrol

These two supplements work synergistically to maintain and protect the replication of our DNA, strengthen the power plants of our cells (mitochondria), improve insulin resistance, and decrease inflammation. Nourishing our mitochondria is important because mitochondrial dysfunction causes neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Insulin resistance causes progressive weight gain and inflammation throughout the body. We want our DNA to stay stable and intact…….mistakes in the replication of our DNA are at the core of aging and cancer.

5. Berberine

It improves insulin resistance which helps us lose belly fat. Belly fat is dangerous because it is highly inflammatory. High inflammation within the body causes accelerated aging and a whole host of diseases. Berberine is a potent antioxidant and it also helps to lower cholesterol.

6. Probiotic

The bacteria in our intestines govern our health or the lack thereof. A high quality probiotic is filled with good bacteria which help keep our gut microbiome healthy. Drinking some Metamucil in the mornings will feed the bacteria and help them stay in top shape.

For supplements to be effective, they must be taken consistently. It is the small things done consistently that improve our lives the most. Take this list of supplements every single day from now on. They will help us improve the health we have and regain some of the health that we have lost.

We also need to be drinking 2 liters of water per day and working out with weights at least 3 times per week……..doing some cardio is fine but the bulk of what we do needs to be resistance training……it is by far the most effective exercise type.

Maintaining a healthy testosterone level is critical to both building and maintaining muscle. Muscle increases our basal metabolic rate and improves our insulin sensitivity…….both of which helps us to maintain a health body weight.

We now offer a lab panel that detects inflammation and insulin resistance within the body…….the cost of the comprehensive lab panel is $100. Simply ask Jake or Ross to draw your blood for the panel and then either myself or Dr. Adams will discuss the results with you. If insulin resistance is detected, it must be addressed before belly fat can be lost…….and we want to keep our inflammatory markers as low as possible because inflammation causes both accelerated aging and disease.
